Back to Me 03:38
You're leaving home Just to find a new road With a name that's the same as your own And you're leaving home Like the sand from a stone Still a part of what you've left to roam Try as you will for a new day But the sun still rises the same way And your heart, your heart How it will ache Because the roads Have those same country bars And the ropes That hang from those same trees And the roads You take to chase the stars Are the same as the roads Back to me And all you can trust Is an old city bus To take you away from this rust And all you can trust Is those hands that will rush To the palls as you fall to the dust Those same old hands lower you down To the same old dirt in the ground A new tombstone in the same old town Where the roads Have those same country bars And ropes That hang from those same trees And the roads You take to fill your heart Are the same as the roads Back to me So go start anew Though the sky follows you It remains that old same awful blue And go start anew Take that heart with you too It is chained to the stain of that hue Hide in the corners of your eyes As you run from the gaze of that sky But the blood in your veins will never run dry Because the roads Have those same country bars And ropes That hang from those same trees And the roads You take that fall apart Are the same as the roads Back to me

House/Home 04:08
The house where I was born I know is Bound to fall Because I've seen your face And you've seen my face And we've grown too tall And I woke up with flakes of blood Under my nails And I've seen your face And you've seen my face And we've grown so pale But that blood just burns to smoke Slipping spirals through our ghost It rises and returns A house is not a home Take it with me everywhere I roam I love every sound under your skin With you I belong each step I'm in And I found all the clothes from When we met before And I've seen your face And you've seen my face And we've grown so torn But we'll wear those sheets like ghosts Pray for patters in the smoke Till nothing's left to burn A house is not a home Take it with me everywhere I roam I love every sound under your skin With you I belong each step I'm in

Far or Near 03:53
I've learned to read the night And when I am weak I've learned to not speak Like those faces basked in white Alone in dark rooms with a checklist marked "soon" But the night has grown so old As I'm left to dream of those faces on screens And the lifetimes that they hold That burn into sand with a movement of hands So if you see me Bark like a drum Far or near I'll know you're hear And I'll hear bells I'll know that you've rung Far or near I'll know you're with me now Your shadow follows through town It folds into mine in this solid black line But each time I turn around I just see the breaths I held with each step So I raise my hands to the sky I long to be caught by some forgotten thought That's been swirling round your eyes When you walk by old homes or are lying alone So if you see me Bark like a drum Far or near I'll know you're hear And I'll hear bells I'll know that you've rung Far or near I'll know you're with me now But my mother was right when she said I was young I'm learning to deal with that now And cracks on the floors will still grow if you're gone They don't care if you're not around If you hate this meaning of mine Well yes I agree I would rather not see Every footstep left behind But I just do my best with what I've got left

In the dark I see it bright I see the fire I have no sight If I had love I'd hold it tight But that's a lie For I have no sight I counted stars In swirling nights I counted wrong I have no sight Through every feast Through every blight It's all the same I have no sight As angels fall Through devils flight I wash my hands I have no sight

Blank arms are easier ya know When it all is burning down the road Let water crumble from your hands Fall way with a sigh And I’m sighing too Oh I’m crying too I’m sighing too Oh I’m crying too If God had ever shown to care I bet he would say to save your prayers Those letters that you’re writing home Burn away in time And that time is through Oh it’s time you knew That time is through Oh it’s time you knew But I won’t go home To those letters that you write And I won’t go home I won’t be holding you tonight I won’t go home I’ll just find a place Out of sight A voyage to another dawn Only burns the side the eyes are on It’s bright but wait an hour more Sun sets with a sigh And I’m sighing too Oh I’m crying too I’m sighing too Oh I’m crying too But I won’t go home To those letters that you write And I won’t go home I won’t be holding you tonight I won’t go home I’ll just find a place Out of sight My body aches from the throes of routine Where I wake up at noon just to fall back asleep And fight With myself How I wish not to move yet to be somewhere else Then say oh well Then my bruises Start to swell But I went outside for the first time in weeks And those modernist buildings looked stale as my sheets But still I cried When the windows reflected the sun into my eyes Forgot what that’s like And I stayed there Until the night But I don’t want to be here No, I don’t want to sing this song I don’t want to let go And I don’t want to laugh along I just want to find it Find whatever I’m hanging on I don’t want to love you No, I don’t want to feel that strong But I’m done with the walking No, the city’s too cold at night My body is tired And my head knows it ain’t my fight So I go to dreaming Of a house with the warmest light And I see us in there And the stars are burned out of sight We just sit there in our silence And we leave the world behind us Finally say: You are my love You are my kin You give me something to believe in Now let me hold you till we’re even And our worlds will maybe slow down in their spin And all the futures you’ve been yearning All the letters I’ve seen burning Oh we’ll stand side by side to warm our hands And we could smile at the sunset And every shadow that comes from it And gladly greet them on the other end But I’ve been home I have seen those flames ignite And I’ve been home Falling in and out of light And I’ve been home No, I do my best Out of sight
